It does have some over powering bass at lower volumes sometimes, but setting it to endurance mode or bass reducer (Ive seen it called both) by holding down minus volume and bluetooth buttons for 10 sec. I guess the clear plastic does not look quite as stylish as the black - especially once you start getting ear wax in the hole. I can shake the little rectangular in-line control box and make the crackling increase. The headphones are okay (I own ATH-MX50x, and ATH-MX50x, which are both great). So far its held up under the weight of all our jackets no problem. I sent a screen shot of my purchase and they are sending me the new unit no charge.
